What is a customer funnel?

A Funnel is a type of report that gives you a sense of your conversion rate. Not all customers complete the conversion goal (making a purchase, booking a ride etc.) and the conversion funnel helps you pinpoint the stage where most customers dropped off during the conversion journey.

How do you do a funnel analysis?

If you use an analytics tool like MoEngage Analytics, you can go to the ‘Funnel’ module and select the stages a customer would typically go through on their way to a goal. For instance, you can break down a goal like purchase into stages like launching the app, searching for a category, visiting a category, visiting a product page, adding it to cart, and finally completing the purchase. This funnel would give you a better picture of where the maximum friction is rather than telling you that only 2% of all customers completed a purchase. Then you can take action to remove the friction point or incentivise the customer to drive higher overall conversion.

What is funnel performance?

Funnel performance is the conversion rate at every stage of the funnel, i.e. every step of the customer journey.

What are funnel metrics?

Funnel metrics is a term used to denote the number of customers ‘flowing’ through your funnel as they move form one stage to the next.

How do you calculate funnel conversion?

Funnel conversion is calculated by this formula: (number of customers in current stage)/(number of customers in previous stage). Sometimes funnel conversion is calculated with respect to the first stage. In that case, the formula changes to (number of customers in current stage)/(number of customers in the first stage).
