By adding recommendations to your MMS campaigns, you can send each user a product that matches their interests instead of the same message to everyone. In the MMS channel, recommendations are inserted into the message text using the Jinja templating language. At MoEngage, creating an MMS campaign is a three-step process.
  1. Target users
  2. Content
  3. Schedule and Goals
You can personalize the campaign with recommendations in the second step ‘Content’. Let us create a recommendation personalized MMS campaign.
The MMS channel is available only in the US and Canada region. Contact your MoEngage Customer Success Manager (CSM) or the Support team to enable it for your account.
Ensure that you have created the desired recommendations. You can use only active recommendations for campaign personalization. Learn how to create and manage recommendations.
The MMS message supports up to 1600 characters. A product set on its own inserts every item in the set, which can take the message past that limit. Modify the Jinja code to fetch a single item, as described in step 10. The character count and the number of MMS appear below the preview.

  9. Under Choose Fallback, select a fallback and click Done. The Choose Fallback option controls what a user receives when personalization fails for them:
  10. It auto-populates some Jinja code retrieving all available items list from recommendations. You can modify the code for your use case. For example, the following is the modified code to display one item:
The Message field showing the auto-populated Jinja code for the product set
MOE_NOT_SEND stops the message from going out when the product set is empty for a user, so no one receives an MMS with a missing product.
  11. To display an item attribute, place the cursor inside the for loop, type ’@’, and select the attribute in the Select attribute list. The attribute is inserted inside the loop, for example {{product['price']}}.
  12. Repeat steps 7 to 11 for each remaining recommendation. You can choose recommendations personalization or static textual content for different parts of the message.
  13. Select Add media(MMS), and then either upload a file or select Media URL and enter the address. Recommendations personalize the message text rather than the media, so the media you add here is the same for every user. The Add media(MMS) section with the Upload file and Media URL options

MoEngage delivers an MMS campaign as an SMS with a link to the media when the recipient’s country or device does not support MMS. The recommendation text reaches those users in the SMS instead, so check it on the SMS (fallback) tab as well as the MMS tab.
